Médiatis Région Aquitaine in Canaries Islands 2005

The course of distance run in 24 hours corresponds to the distance run, taken in a straight line by a position of the boat at the moment T until a position of the boat 24 hours later ( T+24).
Most of the records of distance run in 24 hours were generally beaten in open sea races or during attempts of offshore records, but they can be tempted in a specific way since the meteorological conditions are convenient.
To do it, the arbitrator is the GPS of the boat, coupled with a system of automatic sending of the information, which will beforehand have been verified by a responsible for the WSSRC, and again controlled on the return to the boat. If the boat is in race, it is the data supplied by the committee of race (precise positions GPS passed on via satellites) that will allow to validate the stopwatch.
On the hydraplaneur, it is Inmarsat Mini-C of Mobile France Telecom Satellite Communications that sends automatically the data of the boat.
A distance and an average speed are then established over precise 24 hours.
